In recent years, substantial efforts have been made to implement the HDP nexus in order to strengthen coherence, coordination, and complementarity across the humanitarian, development, and peace sectors. While compelling in theory, the nexus approach often encounters practical challenges and confusion, particularly regarding the peace dimension and the actual peace contributions of nexus projects. The integration of peacebuilding remains underdeveloped in the nexus compared to the other sectors, with fewer cooperation experience and conceptual groundwork that exists between the humanitarian and development sectors. swisspeace aims to address these gaps by enhancing its role as a Swiss Centre of Competence for working in the HDP nexus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new Centre of Competence will focus on three thematic areas, namely measuring and understanding nexus impact, emergence and effectiveness of new nexus partnerships, and the kind of peace promoted within the nexus. Within these areas, specific topics and questions will be explored through learning journeys. Through practice-oriented research, the Centre seeks to drive innovation in methodologies and generate more evidence to support nexus work. At the core of this work are partnerships with local, Swiss and international actors, both to identify knowledge gaps and to foster mutual learning and exchange. Crucially, the expertise and experience of local actors – many of whom are already working in integrated ways – will be central in the evidence generation. The evidence and knowledge products generated will be integrated into swisspeace\u2019s training and courses as well as disseminated widely to inform how Swiss, international and local organizations conduct their work and enhance their capacity in nexus work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More effective implementation of the nexus is key to an integrated approach with humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding sectors working in a complementary way to more sustainably contribute to addressing vulnerabilities, needs, and underlying root causes of fragility and conflicts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
