Forced Evictions in Guatemala – A Silenced Conflict

How does shifting global attention impact HDP (Humanitarian, Development, Peace) organizations and their partners? This à propos edition sheds light on conflicts that rarely make headlines despite their severity. Whether ignored for geopolitical reasons, overshadowed by high-profile crises, or silenced by authoritarian regimes restricting media coverage, these conflicts remain a matter of international concern.

The negative consequences of such neglect are far-reaching, including severe funding shortages for HDP organizations, leaving communities more vulnerable to food insecurity, displacement, and a lack of essential services. The resulting frustration among affected populations, particularly young people, creates a breeding ground for radicalization and organized crime, further worsening instability. Meanwhile, local civil society organizations struggle to gain traction, as their calls for justice and support go unheard.

Drawing insights from Myanmar, Sudan, South Sudan, Western Sahara, Guatemala, and the Sahel region, KOFF organizations describe in this edition how they respond to this lack of attention. From intensifying advocacy and communication efforts to forging new partnerships, engaging alternative media, repurposing funds, and adapting strategies, they work to ensure that “forgotten conflicts” receive the necessary support and visibility.
