Breaking the Ice

Coexistences invites a group of students from Seminara Kibbutzim (a teachers school) to go on an alpine trek of several days together. They will be 12 young adults, in equal numbers of Israeli Arabs and Jews, women and men. Accompanied by the long-time facilitator Ulfat Haider and a Jewish counterpart, the group will leave on a nine-day trek around the Mont-Blanc carrying their tents and food and will cross into Italy, France to return to Switzerland. The objective of this project is to create solidarity, frank and honest discussions, leveraging the imperative to face together a difficult environment, to illustrate the possibility to achieve a common goal inspite of the differences and build solid relationships between the two communities.

Strengthening the dynamic between facilitaros of the Israeli-Palestinian Dialogue

Between 2006 and 2019, Coexistences hosted in Lausanne 33 dialogue groups, and their 15-20 facilitators. On our 10th year anniversary, we began to recognise that these facilitators did not know each other and had different approaches. In addition, no overarching organisation exists locally to enable the cross-fertilisation of a rich and long collective practice and approach. Besides, some of them have developed a field experience but lack a formal training.

The present project aims to create a virtuous circle within which to share experiences and learning, and a support network leveraging their cumulated experience. The group will spend some time in the mountain to consolidate the group dynamic, followed by a few days in Swiss host families.
