This report is the result of extensive desk-based research, interviews, and continuous discussions with civil society organizations and experts on Women, Peace and Security and Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism. It was developed in the context of the project, “Civil Society Contribution to the Implementation of the Swiss NAP 1325,” jointly led by PeaceWomen Across the Globe (PWAG), the Swiss Platform for Peacebuilding KOFF at swisspeace, and cfd - The feminist Peace Organization.

WOMEN, PEACE & SECURITY: RECLAIM PREVENTION

This conference brought together civil society, academia and state institutions to discuss violence prevention in the framework of the Swiss National Action Plan (NAP) 1325. It highlighted critical perspectives on Preventing Violent Extremism, the implementation of NAPs and the future of Women, Peace & Security in Switzerland and beyond. The conference took place the 18 September 2019, in Bern.

Wars and peacebuilding are often associated with men, be they soldiers, well-known heads of state, or successful mediators. However, women have always played an important role in conflicts – albeit a much less visible one. The UN Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security of 2000 recognizes the role of women and girls in the areas of conflict and peacebuilding.

THE INTERRUPTERS - BREAKING THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE

Together with terre des hommes schweiz KOFF is screening "The Interrupters", a documentary on three former gang members working to break the cycle of violence in their neighbourhood in Chicago. The film will be followed by a discussion on gang violence in Latin America with Andrea Zellhuber from terre des hommes Schweiz.
