The Ecumenical Campaign is once again dedicated to climate justice, this year focusing on our food system. How we produce and consume food today is responsible for one-third of the world’s greenhouse gases. The climate crisis is exacerbating hunger around the world. Fastenaktion and HEKS see agroecology as a solution. This holistic approach improves the climate relevance of our food production and distribution “from the field to the plate” in social, political, economic and ecological terms. More rights for smallholder farmers, new frameworks for climate-adapted agriculture, fair trade relations, and ecosystem preservation are just some of the benefits of this approach. The organizations call for more political as well as individual action.
