Promotion of a Culture of Non-Violence and Peace – Reaching out to the Communities - A new Strategy of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS)

For its programme phase 2020 – 2025 the ERCS developed a Strategy to promote Non-Violence and Peace via its country-wide network of branches, volunteers and members. Four building blocks constitute the heart of the programme: Healing, Dialogue, Peace Education and Conflict Sensitivity. Swiss Red Cross and swisspeace worked together with ERCS, Partner Red Cross societies and peace actors in Ethiopa and realized that through living the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross a solid foundation for Non-violence and Peace is given.

After the performance she will report on the current situation in Lebanon. Prevention and sustaining peace: human rights in action

The Quaker United Nations Office - Geneva (QUNO), the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation (DHF) and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) jointly organized a side event at Geneva Peace Week 2020 that reaffirmed the complementarity of human rights and peacebuilding approaches, working methods, priorities and operational approaches towards sustaining peace. The discussion highlighted how human rights can contribute to preventing the outbreak, escalation, continuation and recurrence of crisis and conflict – making the case for greater coherence across the UN’s three pillars.
