Opportunities for Young Professionals at QUNO

Applications are now open for three programme assistant positions at QUNO Geneva from September 2023 to August 2024 in Human Rights & Refugees (HRR); Peace & Disarmament (PD); and Human Impacts of Climate Change (HICC). These are exciting opportunities for young professionals with an interest in international affairs to learn about and contribute to Quaker work at the UN. Doing no harm and doing more good: stories of applying conflict sensitivity at Helvetas

The purpose of this publication by Helvetas is to illustrate what conflict sensitivity looks like in practice. It presents a collection of experiences from Helvetas staff around the world. The 39 examples from 15 countries cover all Helvetas’ working areas. They illustrate the different ways in which our interventions can have unintended effects in the social contexts in which we operate and how staff acted to prevent potential negative impacts of our work or adapted when tensions did arise.

Start of the New Swiss Human Rights Institution (NMRI)

After 25 years of dicussions and work the NMRI will be founded in May 2023. This also implies a turning point for humanrights.ch. Besides its own new orientation, humanrights.ch seeks to hand over its database with basic documentation of human rights and their implementation in Switzerland.

The next Café de la Paix will consist of reports from three countries in the Horn of Africa. Abel Atsbeha will speak about Ethiopia and the war in Tigray. Pheben Asgehedom will give insights to Eritrea and the current situation and Bashir Gobdon will report on Somalia and the famine there.
